Itinerary

1. Morning Pickup & Scenic Drive to Rabat

After enjoying breakfast at your accommodations in Meknes, we’ll hit the highway and drive directly to Rabat, the sprawling and dynamic capital city of Morocco.

  • As Rabat is an extensive modern metropolis, we’ll use our private vehicle to explore the main sights efficiently and make the most of our time.
  • Depending on our start time, we may spend more time at certain sites to tailor the day to your preferences.

2. Visit Hassan Tower & Mausoleum of Mohamed V

Our first stop will be at the iconic Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohamed V, two landmarks that embody Morocco's royal history.

  • Hassan Tower:
    • Completed in 1199 by Almohad King Yacub al-Mansour, this UNESCO World Heritage site stands as a powerful symbol of Morocco's royal history.
    • The tower and its 200 collapsed columns have stood for over 800 years.
  • Mausoleum of Mohamed V:
    • Adjacent to the tower, this beautifully ornamented mausoleum is the resting place of Mohamed V, the grandfather of the current king and the founder of modern Morocco.

3. Explore Kasbah of the Udayas

Next, we’ll visit the Kasbah of the Udayas, a UNESCO World Heritage site perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Built in 1269, this ancient fortified neighborhood is a maze of cobblestone streets, ancient stone houses, colorful doors, and incredible views of the ocean.
  • The Kasbah combines history, culture, and beauty, offering a serene and atmospheric glimpse into Rabat's past.

4. Lunch at a Local Restaurant

After exploring the Kasbah, we’ll stop for a traditional Moroccan lunch at a charming local restaurant.


5. Visit Chellah – Ancient Roman Port & Moorish Necropolis

After lunch, we’ll drive to Chellah, a historic site with layers of history as a Roman port city, a Moorish outpost, and a fortified necropolis.

  • Chellah’s Highlights:
    • A winding complex of ruins, gardens, and ancient streets.
    • The site is also famous for its families of white storks, who have nested here for centuries.

You have the option to explore Chellah with or without a guide.


6. Discover the Royal Palace & Explore Rabat’s Modern and Old Towns

On our way to Rabat’s urban districts, we’ll pass by the Royal Palace, a key symbol of Moroccan tradition and modern governance.

  • If desired, a guided visit will allow access to certain sections of the palace.

Next, we’ll explore Rabat’s New Town, where modern Morocco blends with French colonial influences. Highlights include:

  • The Bank of Morocco
  • The Postal Museum
  • Saint Peter Cathedral

Following this, we’ll visit Rabat’s Old Town, a historic area built atop a Roman settlement. Known for its straight, orderly streets, the Old Town offers vibrant markets and the iconic Street of Consuls, an ideal spot for exploring traditional local life.


7. Return to Meknes

After a full day of exploring Rabat’s rich history, culture, and modern charm, we’ll take the highway directly back to your accommodations in Meknes.
